In and around Auckland city

Tourism1

At Auckland’s Viaduct Harbour, the activity hub throughout the Louis Vuitton Pacific Series, the concentration of restaurants and bars provides good dining and entertainment options by day and night.

From the Viaduct, with an hour or so to spare, you can shop the CBD, have world-class coffee in a buzzing café, wander along the busy and colourful waterfront area, take a quick swim in the historic tepid baths, enjoy some pampering at an inner city spa, appreciate an art exhibition or relax in a local park.

Jump on a green Link bus (designed for environmental efficiency) that circles the city, runs every 10 - 15 minutes and costs just NZ$1.60 per ride – it’s a good way to get your bearings.

The best view of the racing

As not everyone has the chance to get out on the water during racing, the Louis Vuitton Pacific Series has been designed with land-based spectators in mind.

The race course is set within easy viewing distance of several vantage points and you Kiwis will be out in force to watch the spectacle.

North Head and Mount Victoria in Devonport - on the peninsula that divides the inner harbour and Hauraki Gulf - are natural grandstands where you’ll get a 360 degree view of the boats from the time they leave the Viaduct Harbour to all the on-course action. Getting to Devonport is easy by ferry from downtown Auckland – it takes 10 minutes and ferries run every half hour.

The coastline from the city towards Mission Bay, Kohimarama and St Helliers is also a good vantage point. Buses run from the city on a regular basis, or you might want to hire rollerblades or a scooter for a picturesque ride around the waterfront.

The Auckland Sky Tower will also provide a bird’s eye view of the racing – and everything else that’s happening in the city and beyond. Part of the Sky City multi-complex which includes hotels, conference facilities, casinos, theatre, numerous restaurants and bars, sky-jump and sky-walk, the Sky Tower is the tallest free-standing structure in the Southern Hemisphere at 328m with views for more than 80km in every direction.
